The writing of this handbook stems from a love of an industry that has been my sole source of living since 1986. I began preparing taxes and performing accounting services in my early 20’s. My interest peaked after reading a Forbes magazine featuring Ross Perot on the cover. The magazine article highlighted Mr. Perot’s acquisition of billions of dollars in personal wealth. As I devoured the article, I noted this billionaire paid less percentage in taxes than I did. Sparked by this revelation, I vowed to explore and exploit as many tax advantages as possible for the benefit of home-based businesses. Consumed with this desire, I read book after book, article after article and ultimately received advance education in Accounting and Banking You may wonder what makes me the expert. For the better part of my adult life, I have either been in business as a nail technician, beauty supply distributor or as an account executive for a major hair care company. I have coupled my familiarity in small business ownership with my knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, to provide comprehensive information about the benefits of one-man corporations that is unparalleled by today’s accounting procedures. Does this mean your certified public accountant (CPA) is unknowledgeable? Absolutely not! It simply means that your CPA does not possess “specialized knowledge” needed to understand your one-man corporation. It is the same principle used in classifying medical doctors – an eye doctor does not know a great deal about your feet, although he is also a doctor. Doctors, like accountants have areas of specialization, therefore, your accountant should “specialize” in your business and understand the most intimate details about it. After thirty plus years as a Tax Resolution Specialist and Accountant, with most of those years dedicated to serving the cosmetology and barbering industry, thousands of counseling hours and completed returns, I have acquired the” specialized knowledge” unique to small business operations.
